Shitokai Karate Hereford Dojo Marks Its 4th Anniversary This Year

The club was opened back in 2007 by local Karate instructor Amy Powell 4th Dan Shitoryu.

27 year old Amy first started training in her father's dojo at the age of 4 and over the years has built up an extensive knowledge of the Shito-Ryu karate system including many kata and their full self defence applications. Amy also practices Kobudo, Jodo, Nanban Sattoryu Kempo, and has also competed successfully at many national and international tournaments..

The Shushinkai Karate School teaches the Shitokai system of Shitoryu. This is a world recognised system with several of it's kata being originally adopted by the Japan Karate Federation as the standard or Shitei forms for world competition.

The Karate style know as Shitoryu was originated by Master Kenwa Mabuni. 1889-1952 His main influences in Karate came from Ankoh Itosu, (Shuri-te) and Kaneryo Higaonna (Naha-te). Soke Kenwa Mabuni merged the skills he had learned from these two great masters and created his own style of Karate Shito-Ryu.The name 'Shito' is the combination of the two first characters of the names of Master Itosu and Master Higaonna.

Sensei Murayama Spring course May 7-8th

Sensei Murayama 8thDan Shihan will be making one of his twice annual visits to teach the UK Shitokai group. The course is held in Worcester with visiting clubs from Chester, Gloucester & Cheltenham,  as well as the Hereford group attending the weekend course.

Sensei Murayama also conducts all exams of black belt 1st Dan and above during his visits. Murayama Sensei is a direct student of the Shitokai founder Manzo Iwata who was in turn a direct student of the Shitoryu founder Kenwa Mabuni.

The first Shitokai Herefordshire Tournament is due to be held at Leominster Leisure Centre on Sunday 22nd May. The Hereford and Leominster clubs will be joined by Worcester and Malvern clubs at the spring championships. It's a great opportunity for the whole of the Shushinkai school to come together.

Hi there, we're moving back to UK this March. Both our sons have been involved in Shitoryu for ove a year. How would your style work for them. My eldest has his first stripe and my youngest has his yellow belt. Could you please email back with further details and Dojo times etc.
    With thanks in advance
